About the snake draft order generator

A snake draft reverses the order every round. The manager who picks first in round one picks last in round two, first again in round three, and so on. It exists to offset the advantage of an early first-round pick, and it is the default in almost every fantasy league for that reason.

The arithmetic is simple but easy to get wrong by hand, especially past round three or with an odd number of managers. For overall pick number P and N managers, the round is ⌈P ÷ N⌉ and the position within that round is ((P − 1) mod N) + 1 — reversed whenever the round number is even. This board computes it with the same function the live engine uses to decide who is on the clock.

The usual alternative is a straight linear order, where the same sequence repeats every round. It is simpler and it is measurably less fair, which is why leagues that use it tend to pair it with an auction for the first few picks instead.

FAQ

Snake Draft Order Generator questions

What is a snake draft?

A draft where the pick order reverses each round. With eight managers, round one runs 1 through 8 and round two runs 8 back down to 1. It compensates the manager picking last in round one by giving them the first pick of round two.

Snake draft or linear draft — which is fairer?

Snake, in almost every case. A linear draft gives the first manager the best pick in every single round, which compounds over a long draft. Snake alternates the advantage, so the total value of each manager’s first two picks is much closer together.

How is this different from a third-round reversal?

Third-round reversal is a variant where the order flips again in round three rather than alternating normally, to further compensate late first-round picks. It is not supported in the live draft engine, which runs standard snake and linear orders.

How much does it cost?

$49, once. That is a LiveDraft Lifetime license: unlimited drafts, unlimited participants, every feature, forever. It is not a subscription and there are no per-draft or per-seat fees.

Do the people I invite have to pay?

No, and they never will. Everyone you invite plays free, forever. No seats, no per-player fees, no account upsell. Only the person running the draft needs a license, so a twelve-person league costs $49 in total.

Is it a subscription? Does it expire?

Neither. You pay once and the license is yours permanently — no renewals, no expiry, no card kept on file for later.

What features does the license include?

All of them. Every format (snake, standard, auction, hybrid), custom CSV datasets with unlimited rating columns, photos on the board, anonymous auction bidding, live chat, spectating, auto-pick, the template library, and priority support. There is no higher tier to buy.

Do I need to know how to code or use a spreadsheet?

No. Start from a ready-made template in one click, or upload a simple CSV. We provide a downloadable template with the columns already set up for you.

How many people can join a draft?

As many as your format needs. Invite friends by username, set the draft order, and everyone joins the live room from any device — no installs required.

What draft formats are supported?

Standard and snake drafts, budget auctions with anti-snipe and max bids, and a hybrid mode that auctions the top of your board before drafting the rest.

What happens if someone loses connection?

The clock is server-authoritative, so the draft stays in sync for everyone. Anyone who drops can reconnect and resume exactly where they left off, and optional auto-pick keeps things moving on the clock.

Can other people watch our draft?

Yes — flip on public spectating and anyone with the link can follow along pick by pick, live.

Then run the draft itself

These tools are the same maths the live engine runs. $49 once covers every draft you host, and everyone you invite plays free.
